Highbridge Road, Barking – reinforcing the gas network

We’re carrying out essential works on the gas pipes along Highbridge Road to reinforce the gas network to meet the future growth in gas demand in Barking. These works will keep homes and businesses connected to a safe and reliable gas supply for cooking, heating and hot water.

Part 1 on the project was completed in November last year.

    Part 2

The second part of the reinforcement project is due to start on the 9 February, for just over six weeks until 24 March 2026.

Once again, the project will be split into different phases with slightly different traffic management, as per the needs of the area.

Please allow extra time for your journeys during this period.

    Part 1 - Complete

The project will be completed in nine phases, starting on 7 July 2025, for 18 weeks until 9 November 2025.

To carry out our work safely, temporary rolling traffic lights will be installed from the junction of Drydock Square and West Bank to outside Tesco.

A rolling northbound lane closure will also be in place along Highbridge Road.

Alternative pedestrian crossings will be provided and cyclists will be required to follow the designated diversion route. All diversions will be clearly signposted.

Businesses will remain open throughout our works, please follow diversions for access.

There are no planned interruptions to gas supplies during this project.

Please allow extra time for your journeys during this period.
