The local community are being invited to attend a public exhibition to find out more about essential work to replace ageing gas mains near Monument Station.
Cadent has recently carried out emergency repair work to large old gas mains in the area, which have recently experienced leakage.
After careful assessment it’s been decided that overall disruption to the local area will be less if the planned replacement of the gas main is brought forward. This work will help ensure local people remain connected to safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating and will also avoid disruption caused by any further leaks from the old gas mains.
Cadent Authorising Engineer Michael Morris said: “We’re doing all we can to ensure the project has as little impact on people who work, live or travel through the area as possible.
Our work will help ensure local people stay connected to safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating and also cut the number of disruptive unplanned repair jobs required on ageing gas mains.
Cadent is working closely with the City of London and Transport for London (TfL) to ensure the project is delivered with as little disruption as possible.
All shops and businesses will remain open as usual throughout the work.
Mr Morris added: I’d encourage anyone with questions about the work to come and meet us at the public exhibition or alternatively they can contact our Community Relations Team on 0800 389 8261 or [email protected].

This work is part of Cadent’s investment to replace and upgrade the gas mains in London with safer and more durable modern pipes. This work will help ensure London enjoys a 21st century infrastructure network and remains one of the world’s leading cities.
Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.
Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
