People are being invited to find out more about essential work to replace ageing gas mains in Chelsea.
In 2017 engineers replaced old gas mains in Fulham Road between Gunter Grove and Elm Park Gardens.
Now Cadent is planning the next phase of gas mains replacement work on the road, which will be between Elm Park Gardens and Brompton Road. Details, dates and traffic management for the project are still being finalised.
Cadent Engineering Manager Stuart Donaldson said: We’re doing all we can to ensure the project has as little impact on people who work, live or travel through the area as possible.
We’re planning the work in close discussion with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, TfL traffic management and buses, the emergency services and Royal Brompton Hospital. Throughout the work all shops and businesses will be open as usual and it will not affect your gas supply.
He added: The project will help ensure local people remain connected to safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating and also reduce the number of disruptive unplanned repair jobs required on ageing gas mains.
He added: I’d encourage anyone with questions about the work to come and meet us at the public exhibition or alternatively they can contact our Community Relations Team on 0800 389 8261 or [email protected].

This work is part of Cadent’s investment to replace and upgrade the gas mains in London with safer and more durable modern pipes. This work will help ensure London enjoys a 21st century infrastructure network and remains one of the world’s leading cities.
Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.
Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
