    • Essential project to lay new pipe to maintain local gas supplies
    • Traffic management including temporary traffic lights to be deployed
    • Local shops and businesses will remain open as usual

Road users are being advised of an essential project to install a new gas main in the village of Ashill.

The new low pressure gas main must be installed to help ensure the local community keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.

Work on the project is due to start on Monday 15 July and is scheduled to take seven weeks to complete.

The work will be taking place in Hale Road from the junction with Millfield and into Dunnetts Close. Engineers will need to dig open excavations between the locations to lay the new gas pipe.

To enable this work to be done safely and efficiently three way traffic lights will be deployed at both the junction of Millfield and Hale Road and the junction of Hale Road and Dunnetts Close.

In Hale Road excavations will be done in 50m stretches to maintain traffic flows, using ‘give and take’ traffic management.

Local shops and businesses will remain open as usual and gas supplies should not be interrupted by the work.

Paul Lawrence, Cadent Network Supervisor Norfolk, said: We need to carry out this work now to help ensure the local gas network continues to meet demand in the village.

We’re doing all we can to deliver the work as promptly as possible and with minimal disruption.

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
