    • Cadent scores 100/100 for the second consecutive year in the GRESB Infrastructure Asset Assessment
    • ‘5-star’ rating and ‘Sector Leader’ status retained
    • Full marks achieved across leadership, governance, risk management, reporting and stakeholder engagement

Cadent, the UK’s largest gas distribution network, has – for the second year in a row – achieved a perfect score of 100/100 in the globally-recognised GRESB Infrastructure Asset Assessment, retaining both its 5-star rating and Sector Leader status for 2026.

The result reflects the maturity of Cadent’s approach to sustainability, with the assessment praising strong performance across areas including climate risk, governance, emissions reporting, employee and stakeholder engagement, and customer performance.

GRESB, a global ESG benchmark for real assets, is used by investors and stakeholders to assess the sustainability performance of infrastructure assets. The assessment recognises organisations that demonstrate excellence in sustainability management, operational performance, governance and social impact.

For 2026, Cadent achieved the highest possible overall score and retained the 5-star rating, alongside its Sector Leader status, which it first obtained in 2025.

Cadent achieved a first-place Management Score, securing full marks across leadership, governance, risk management, reporting and stakeholder engagement.

It also recorded a strong Performance Score, including full marks in energy, greenhouse gas emissions, health and safety, and customer categories.

Dave Garner, Chief of Health, Safety and Engineering at Cadent, said: “Retaining a perfect score of 100/100, our 5-star rating and Sector Leader status is an excellent result, and one that reflects the contribution of colleagues right across Cadent.

Achieving these results for a second consecutive year demonstrates the strength and maturity of the approach we have built to sustainability. It recognises not just our governance and reporting, but the work happening throughout the business on areas including climate risk, emissions, health and safety, our customers and engagement with our stakeholders.

We are incredibly proud of this recognition, but sustainability is about continuing to improve. This provides another strong benchmark for us as we continue to develop our approach and deliver responsibly for our customers, communities and the environment.

The recognition also builds on a broader track record of strong ESG performance. Cadent is rated AAA by MSCI and is ranked among the top-rated gas companies globally by Sustainalytics, providing further independent validation of its approach to sustainable business.

Each year, GRESB assesses and benchmarks the ESG performance of real assets worldwide, providing information to financial markets on material performance factors that can influence long-term value. The assessments are informed by issues considered material by investors and industry and are aligned with international reporting frameworks, goals and emerging regulations.

A GRESB 5-Star Rating is awarded to entities in the top 20 per cent of the benchmark, while its Sector Leader awards recognises infrastructure and real estate organisations demonstrating leadership within their peer groups.

Cadent has participated in the GRESB Infrastructure Assessment since 2019 and has published a Sustainability Report every year since then – the latest is here https://cadentgas.com/social-responsibility/sustainability/report

    Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
