Today marks World Homeless Day 2022. For the last five years, homelessness has been rising year on year in England. By the end of 2021, over 200,000 homes across Britain were experiencing the worst forms of homelessness.

In January of this year, we were delighted to launch a two-year partnership with the homeless charity Emmaus. We want to be a force for good in the communities we serve, and by partnering with charities like Emmaus, we can reach a greater number of people who need our support the most. Over the next two years, teams across Cadent will work closely with Emmaus and their communities to support those experiencing homelessness through fundraising, volunteering, knowledge sharing and raising awareness of the key issues faced by those experiencing homelessness.

We’re also helping Emmaus in other ways such as the recent donation of two new boilers to enable their new Bradford community centre to open, as well as raising funds through the Cadent Foundation which will be used to help with energy efficiency initiatives in Emmaus community buildings, enabling a more sustainable future.

Emmaus are dedicating World Homeless Day to focusing on attitudes towards homelessness and highlight how negative stereotypes around homelessness can limit access to support for people who need it. In support of their campaign today, Cadent colleagues will be volunteering at Emmaus Leicestershire and Rutland.

If you would like to add your support to Emmaus, donations can be made via their website (https://emmaus.org.uk/)

    Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.

Cadent manages the national gas emergency service free phone line on behalf of the gas industry - 0800 111 999*
