Cadent engineers will be carrying out emergency gas repair works on Birmingham Road, Sutton Coldfield, following reports of a smell of gas from a member of the public.
The works are essential to ensure the continued safety of the local community and the integrity of the gas network.
Work will begin on the evening of Wednesday 14 October and engineers will be working through the night to complete the repair as quickly as possible while minimising disruption to residents, businesses and road users. Cadent is aiming to have the site fully cleared by Friday 16 October.
The repairs are being carried out in response to a reported gas escape and require immediate attention to ensure public safety. While every effort is being made to reduce the impact on the local community, some disruption is unavoidable during the works.
A Cadent spokesperson said: Safety is always our top priority. Following a report of a smell of gas, our engineers need to carry out urgent repairs to the gas network on Railway Road. We understand these works will cause disruption, and we'd like to thank residents and road users for their patience while we complete this essential repair.
To help minimise the impact on the local community, our teams will be working overnight to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible. These repairs are vital to keep the area safe and maintain a reliable gas supply for local homes and businesses.
Cadent apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks the community for its understanding while these urgent safety works are completed.
Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.
Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
